Round Up of FPW Day One
Karachi is already in full swing with the onset of winter party festivities and fashion shows alike. The PFDC L'Oreal Paris Bridal Week (PLBW) last month set our expectations sky high alongside the Elan show that delivered umpteen hits last weekend. Therefore, FPW bolstered by the promise of high fashion glamour is the supposed 'it' event of the season.
The 3-day show kicked off with some noteworthy showcases. From HSY's high glam collection to Amir Adnan's smart yet casual wear, and to Maheen Karim mastering the art between bling and subtle, the opening day delivered some noteworthy elements.
Moving back to the runway, here's the low down on Day One.
Amir Adnan: The Way Forward:
The show kicked off with Amir Adnan putting his best sartorial foot forward. The designer shook things up in his collection by contrasting traditional with the modern day look. Sherwanis were paired with chinos, jackets, pants and shirts; surely the fusion of western wear offered an array of casuals and formals that were fit for every taste.
The refreshing collection offered minimal embroidery keeping the colour palette wintry, dominated by hues of black, white and deep browns. Dapper boy, Feroze Khan was the show stopper for this forward collection.
Maheen Karim: Tales of Vienna Woods:
Maheen Karim adopted her usual glamorous tune. She displayed a collection that was in line with the festivities and celebrations that winter has to offer. A mix between bling and subtle, she created funky prints and paired them with the classic black and gold was successfully able integrate three-dimensional florals. Her flattering ball gowns and dresses seemed to keep an elegant and confident lady in mind.
The details she offered in each outfit was impeccable alongside the intricate jewelry pieces that seemed to be carefully picked with each outfit in mind.
Suffuse by Sana Yasir: Freesia:
Keeping in mind the bridal season, the designer displayed a heavily embroidered bridal showcase with a soft, feminine colour palette that entailed shades of silver, mint, lilac and delicate pinks.
The sari sported by her showstopper, Momal Sheikh was stunning and surely stood out amidst the peplums, fully worked lehngas, flared gharara pants and long shirts.
Mona Imran: Gold Rush:
As the collection's name suggests the models walking the ramp were glided in gold. Her display remained true to her signature aesthetics that offered saris, lehngas, blouses with shoulder cut-outs, kaftans and cholis paired with pants and capes. Sajal Ali, the show stopper, slayed the catwalk with her heavy, traditional outfit.
Shamaeel Ansari & Amir Adnan: Kosem Sultan:
The designers came together to put forward a costume collection of the Turkish TV serial, Kosem Sultan. Inspired by the soap itself, the costumes were reminiscent of that era. The collection transported us back to an era where regal dresses were seen on an ordinary day out.
Jeem by Hamza Bokhari: Naurooz:
Tracing back to the Persian heritage, the gorgeous colour palette comprising of gold, mint and deep purple on the ramp surely stood out. The multi-colour lehnga donned by Hira Tareen was one of a kind and another interesting piece from the collection that caught our eye was a floral printed green chaddar paired with a heavy duty outfit.
The use of floral patterns and traditional fabrics such as Banarsi gave this bridal collection an edge over the others.
Sobia Nazir: Untitled collection:
Sobia Nazir is celebrated for experimenting with her designs and no doubt, she did the same. Her collection was inclusive of top trends that have made it to headlines globally inclusive of the popular dhaka pajama that has made quite the comeback. Her colour palette started off light including shades of beige and olive green and moved onto darker shades of black, gold and red as the show proceeded. Details in her collection included tassles of sequins, fringes and fur.
HSY: Onyx:
There was HSY for the finale who showcased a monochromatic collection. Each outfit reflected a unique look, true to its kind of elegance; full-sleeved jumpsuits, slouchy shirts belted at the waist, organza wraps, exaggerated churidar pants and a multitude of ruffles. Accessories that will soon be introduced to the HSY retail stores also made an appearance on stage- trendy duffel bags, slouch bags and fanny bags. The charming and effortless Bilal Ashraf as the designer's showstopper surely did justice to the glam collection!
