Kendall & Kylie Jenner Apologise And Withdraw Music Icon T-shirts After Backlash

Reality Television celebrities Kendall and Kylie Jenner apologised on Thursday after creating hype for selling expensive T-shirts featuring their faces over images of famed music groups and artists including The Doors, Pink Floyd and rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G.

"These designs were not well thought out and we deeply apologize to anyone that has been upset and/or offended, especially to the families of the artists," the Jenner sisters said in a statement.

They added,"we are huge fans of their music and it was not our intention to disrespect these cultural icons in anyway," they added.

Their latest addition followed outrage from fans and relatives of some of the artists and cease and desist letters from other musicians for using images without consent.

"Girls, you haven't earned the right to put your face with musical icons. Stick to what you know … lip gloss," Sharon Osbourne, the wife of Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, wrote on Twitter.

Violetta Wallace, the mother of Notorious B.I.G, accused the duo of exploitation and said no one had contacted the rapper for permission.

"This is disrespectful, disgusting, and exploitation at its worst!!!" Wallace said in an Instagram post.

Both have been accused of cultural appropriation in the past. Kylie has been criticised for clothing and hairstyle choices — like wearing her hair braided into cornrows and marketing camouflage-patterned swimwear — without giving credit to black women who had earlier popularised similar styles. And Kendall was called out for starring in a Pepsi commercial in which she joined a march that appeared to be a protest.

“The tee shirts have been pulled from retail and all images have been removed,” the sisters said in their apology. “We will use this as an opportunity to learn from these mistakes and again, we are very sorry.”
