Angelina Jolie On Trump's Travel Ban

Human rights advocate and actor Angelina Jolie wrote an article on New York Times addressing the executive order that US President Donald Trump had recently passed - barring travellers from seven Muslim-majority countries that adversely affected vulnerable refugees and could in turn fuel extremism.

Trump’s executive order bans citizens of the following countries: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from entering the United States for 90 days. Additionally, refugee admissions were suspended for 120 days while Syrian refugees were barred indefinitely.

Without directly addressing Trump, Jolie, in her opinion piece wrote, that religious discriminating is like "playing with fire.”

And as a mother of six children, "all born in foreign lands a who were all born in foreign lands and are proud American citizens, I very much want our country to be safe for them, and all our nation’s children. But I also want to know that refugee children who qualify for asylum will always have a chance to plead their case to a compassionate America. And that we can manage our security without writing off citizens of entire countries — even babies — as unsafe to visit our country by virtue of geography or religion."

The Oscar-winning starlet added,

She said that by “implying Muslims are less worthy of protection, we fuel extremism abroad.”

This is the first comment the 41-year-old has made publicly since her divorce in September with actor Brad Pitt.
