Fashion Designer Mona Imran Talks To HELLO!
In conversation with designer Mona Imran

Tell us a little about yourself and your journey as a fashion designer.

15 years ago, my passion for fashion and art poked me to step into a micro-level private exhibition and BOOM, my designs started getting an overwhelming response. Backed by my family and three beautiful children, I mustered up the courage to step into the fashion world.

How did you enter into this field? Was it always the dream?

I have always been an imaginative art loving person. Teaching kindergarten to owning a brand is a long journey of collecting my visions, absorbing the artistic vibes from the pre-school kids, and manipulating them into my designs. So, yeah that’s the beginning!

You’re both the creative and the business head of your company. How do you balance your time between the two?

I have a whole team managing everything. Recently, I set up a new studio where all my production team, labor, and designers work under one roof making it easier for me to manage studio and production at the same place.

How has your work evolved since you began your own label?

Elevating to a higher level requires a big scale team and management. We recruited talented people in each section. Started with a studio and a production team, designers, marketers, and customer service presenters. We started with a Bridal Couture line and while expanding the brand we decided to cater to people with other lines from formals, luxury pret and casuals.

How would you describe your brand’s aesthetics?

Mona Imran creations present an accurate study on fabrics, lines, and volumes combined with cultural influences. Mona Imran has a great sense of traditional palette that goes from bold to pastel colours. The brand aims to instill the concept of femininity with new modernity, enriching it with beautiful cuts and draped silhouettes.

What’s your motto?

To be bigger and better in quality and quantity. I want my designs to be something that people sought after and would be proud to wear. Most importantly, I want to have a successful business no matter how big or small it may be. We’re intended to launch our lawn collection very soon.

Where do you look for creative inspiration?

I always design without being overly influenced by existing designs and art. I like to see my ideas as my biggest influence. However, I greatly admire the concept, colour grading and the textures from Mother Nature.

What sets you apart from your competitors? Is it hard to stay innovative?

Yes, everyday is a challenge in such a competitive saturated market full of talented designers. But we’re keeping our mark high with unique concepts, minimalist aesthetics, and budget-friendly pricing.

According to you, how has COVID-19 affected the fashion industry? Are you doing anything different?

The COVID-19 pandemic is a big hit to the fashion industry. Due to the current situation market gets down within few days after lockdown. In such a scenario, we came up with a strategy to build a budget-friendly relationship with our potential customers and play our part by making their time in quarantine cheerful.

What advice would you want to give young designers?

Newbies! Come up with something out of the box and keep in mind that passion and patience is the only key to move forward in this very competitive and fluctuating market. It takes a lot of time and commitment to stick to your vision and establish yourself among masses.
