The Pakistani beauty industry has undergone many changes over the years, but some names that have made it what it is have remained constant. One cannot forget the mavens who witnessed the industry's transformation, and for this reason, they remain true icons. One such name is Rukaiya Adamjee, who has left a lasting impression on the industry due to her signature style and meticulous attention to detail.

After taking a sabbatical to recharge her creative batteries, Rukaiya is back with a stylish vengeance and is working with even more passion than ever before! Her signature style is instantly recognizable, and her ability to create unique looks that are tailored to each client's personality and style sets her apart from the rest.

"I started doing this when I was 20 years old, and I'm 52, and this is who I am," Rukaiya explained. "For me, there was never a thought that I wouldn't come back. This is my identity. People say I'm somebody's daughter, somebody's wife, but in my head, I'm Rukaiya, the stylist."

But it's not as simple as she makes it sound. The industry needed a name like hers to return, especially at a time when things have unfortunately turned towards following trends instead of creating them.

"I've adapted to some trends, while in others, I haven't," she opines. "I've also created my own trends and style, so I don't really follow what's currently happening. I do my own thing and choose whatever looks best to me. Adaptation comes easily to me due to my experience, and there's nothing that I can't do or create my own ideas for. I can do whatever I want and create the look that I desire."

It's precisely this adaptation that has made Rukaiya a name that brides and celebrity clients alike feel so comfortable with. Her astuteness to accuracy and detail and her honesty in her work sets her apart from her peers.

"Nothing makes me happier than the look that my bride gets when she looks at herself in the mirror, ready for the main day of her life, and she feels she looks stunning. I think I've never overdone my work. I've taken as much as I can handle and where I feel I can give quality."

For her, the mix of both her own and her clients' satisfaction works best.

"I've never done anything that I have felt I've been dishonest with. Whether my clients ask for a cut or a color or makeup, I always give the best of what I have to give to them, especially with my brides," she added. "I want them to feel like the prettiest girl. I don't work purely for my satisfaction but also for the satisfaction of my clients."

This idea of wanting the client to be the priority didn't just pop up one day. Rukaiya has been actively involved in the beauty industry for 30 years, and she has witnessed the industry evolve from its beginnings to its current state. She has actively understood the needs of the clientele, especially in terms of making each bride look unique.

She does not believe in creating a 'Chhap' or making all the brides look the same.

"I strive to create an individual look for every bride I work with. I take their personality, likes, and dislikes into account. Above all, it's her special day, and she should feel her best ever," Rukaiya revealed. "I provide them with the assurance that if they don't like something, there's no problem. We can wash it clean and start over because what matters most to me is how the bride looks. Moreover, I believe that every bride deserves a unique and separate look. There's no shortcut or overtaking work, and I give my best to every client.”

She has always believed that staying honest and true to one's interests will eventually lead to success. This is also the advice she gives to the budding stylists to not give up when experiencing setbacks and failures because pushing forward will lead to success.

“Nowadays, it's even more challenging due to the increasing number of competitors,” she said. “But if you stay honest and true to your interests, you will reap the rewards of your hard work in the end.”

Rukaiya's return to the beauty industry in Pakistan signals a new beginning, one that embraces diversity and inclusivity. With her signature style and meticulous attention to detail, she has the potential to ignite a new revolution in the industry, one that values individuality and celebrates unique beauty.

As she resumes her work as a stylist, she is sure to inspire a new generation of budding stylists and beauty professionals in Pakistan. Her story is a testament to the fact that hard work, passion, and honesty can help one achieve their dreams, regardless of the challenges they face.

We can't wait to see what the future holds for her and for the industry as a whole.
