TO PROTECT OR TO NOT PROTECT: ‘SINF-E-AHAN’S VIRAL SCENE

‘Sinf-e-Ahan’ is easily the most motivational and feminist drama on TV right now but recently a viral scene has gotten some mixed reactions. In episode 19 there is a scene where ‘LC Aarzoo’ is being harassed by her ex-fiancé’ Nouraiz’ and in this scene, ‘Major Usama’ steps up to protect ‘Aarzoo’,

There are two types of responses to this scene. On one hand, people are praising ‘Major Usama's’ character and how he stood up for ‘Aarzoo’. People also praised Sheheryar Munawar's acting. Another thing that was praised was how this drama showed the reality of toxic relationships. As well as how hard it is for women to leave such toxic relationships and the setbacks that come with it. The representation of ‘Aarzoo’ having people who support and protect her around is amazing to watch.

 

On the other hand, people are criticizing the fact that even when this is supposed to be a show of empowered women; of women who are training for the army. Yet when ‘Aarzoo’ is being harassed by her Ex-Fiance ‘Nouraiz’, she doesn't stand up for herself and is instead saved by a man. This perspective was seen as contradictory.

 

But when we look at it. Maybe the reason why ‘Major Usama’ protects ‘LC Aarzoo’ is to show that there are all types of men around us both good and bad. Another reason might be the fact that even tho ‘LC Aarzoo’ is a strong and independent woman, her toxic relationship was bound to have mental effects. Possibly ‘Aarzoo’ was not ready to face ‘Nouraiz’ or even confront him. These are reasons enough for ‘Major Usama’ to step in and support her.
