It brings to the table a variety of genres that garner massive viewership. Every single show is a rage since the very first episode. And this must be giving its contemporaries sleepless nights. Let’s look at the top five shows that impressed this week:
‘Kabli Pulao’
We wonder how he hits the bull’s eye every time; director Kashif Nisar is a magician. ‘Kabli Pulao’ is a blend of intense emotions, thought-provoking elements and light-hearted moments. The cross-border story of a widow ‘Barbeena’ (Sabeena Farooq) and ‘Haji Mushtaq’ (Mohammed Ehteshamuddin) is redefining the meaning of love. It’s heart melting to see the blend of two cultures - Afghan and Punjab. The unconventional protagonists are the show's biggest highlight.
‘Nauroz’
Mawra Hocane has mastered the art of carrying an entire project on her shoulders all alone. The unusual story of ‘Rishtina,’ a girl who has not seen the world till 20, has no option left but to run away from her cruel grandfather. Her journey is heart-wrenching and endearing at the same time. The captivating plot, deft directions by Shahzad Kashmiri and towering performance by Mawra Hocane attract big-time viewership.
‘22 Qadam’
The Hareem Farooq starrer empowers women and breaks gender stereotypes left, right and center. The story of an ordinary girl and aspiring cricketer aims to win big for Pakistan is heartwarming. Hareem as ‘Farheen’ aka ‘Fari’ hits it out of the park. The show is highly watchable due to her supreme acting chops. Her dedication and passion for her craft makes us root for her victory.
‘Jindo’
This traditional tale stars Humaima Malik as the protagonist who fights patriarchy and goes all out to fight against evil forces. The makers go beyond the narratives and bring something new to the table. Set in the backdrop of the deserts, viewers get to savor the blend of Sindhi and Rajhistani culture. The intriguing plots, subplots and towering performances make ‘Jindo’ a must-watch.
‘Jeevan Nagar’
This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Sohail Ahmed’s double dose of entertainment. Ahmed is a chameleon, the way he portrays ‘Babbar Shah’ and ‘Guru Laali’ in ‘Jeevan Nagar’ has viewers on the edge of their seats. Four episodes down, the suspense continues whether they are two separate individuals or one having a past. Director Kashif Nisar brilliantly depicts the small town nuances, the raw settings and the well-crafted performances make Jeevan Nagar a triumph.
