Wedding Diaries: Anam Falak
Bridal Shower... I had my hair in loose curls, minimal make-up and wore a lace and tulle crop top and skirt in a lovely mint colour that my mother made very last minute for me.
Nikkah... I wore a gorgeous mango coloured Farah Talib Aziz outfit with my mother’s thick monotone gold jhumkas and a traditional jhoomar.
Mehndi... I wore a silver beige and dull gold Élan outfit with a peach pearl encrusted dupatta and jewellery from Hanif Jewellers from Lahore whereas Kamran wore Deepak.
Baraat... My baraat outfit was by Dr. Haroon. I did my make-up myself. I opted for impactful yet sculpted eyes and a lip that was a pretty deep watermelon colour. My hairstyle was a high simple updo, away from my face highlighting my jewellery and make- up. Kamran wore Deepak yet again and a traditional headpiece called an Aitchesonian kulla that we had flown in from Lahore.
Valima... Once again I did my own make-up, but opted for a different look including my hair colour as I wanted to channel a bit of 90’s with a dark brown lip and brown, bronze and gold smoked eyes. I left my hair open, slightly darker and with a sleek middle part for a completely different look. I think I got the most compliments that day on my look as it was so different!

Now that the suspense of who and what she wore are out of the way, read on for some juicy details that will make you love everything about this wedding!
Q. How did you meet your husband?
A. Our wedding took place very spontaneously over a short period of hardly a year, our families were involved from the beginning, so it made everything so much quicker!
Q. What was the most memorable part of your wedding?
A. Every single part of your wedding is memorable when you’re the bride or groom, but for me I would say my nikkah was the most memorable, as I had a separate Persian themed event based on the Sofreh Aghd and seeing my husband for the first time in traditional attire surrounded by my family and friends was just overwhelming and amazing.
Q. Were you a bridezilla at all?
A. I wasn’t at all, as I was working up to a day before my wedding! I was completely relaxed, as I had handed over most of the wedding duties to my mother, my wedding planner, brothers and my aunts!
Q. As a bride, what was the one thing you were most particular about?
A. I just wanted everything to go without a glitch, as I had such a long series of events and I’ll sound vain saying this, but I just wanted to look good!
Q. What stressed you out the most about your wedding preparations?
I got married in the summer season and my events were outdoors - I was just worried about the heat ruining a lot of things – make-up, flowers, decor, cake, guest moods! But luckily that wasn’t an issue at all, as everything was done so well I couldn’t even tell it was summer!
Q. Tell us about your favourite bridal look.
A. A lot of people would say my Sofreh Aghd look was the best, as I was wearing such a different colour, but I think my favourite was my baraat look, where I tried to merge my modern and classic vibe with a traditional red outfit and minimalist hair and make-up.
Q. What is the most important element in a bridal look?
A. Everything from your hair to make-up to jewellery is so important in putting a look together and I can safely vouch for that, being a bridal make-up artist. We have so many brides who look amazing with their hair and make-up until the jewellery comes on and takes over the whole look and just looks out of place, hairstyles if done incorrectly can be overwhelming and hide the beauty of the make-up hair and outfit - there are so many elements that are to be kept in mind when it comes to deciding your look. What suits another bride may not suit your face, hair, body structure or personality, so it’s very important to go over your complete look at least once before your big event. I know from my personal experience that the make-up look I did on myself as a practice wasn’t the one I did on my actual day, but I went with the same hairstyle.
Q. Did you follow any beauty and fitness regime before the wedding?
A. I was on a very clean diet routine with no carbohydrates or sugars, minimal tea and coffee and plenty of sleep. I also did quite a lot of relaxation therapy, which was amazing in getting me de-stressed and I would make sure I worked out everyday even if it was for a few minutes.
Q. What is your most favourite item from your trousseau?
A. My grandmother gave me these gorgeous bracelets made of hundreds of gold beads, worn tightly on the wrist, from her own wedding that are traditionally called ‘Ponchian’ they are classic yet so versatile and I can wear them with almost anything and it means so much to me emotionally as well.
Q. What tips would you give to a stressed out bride-to-be?
A. Don’t stress, everything will get done in its due time, don’t rush and don’t panic. Secondly, get enough rest, drink enough water and have a balanced diet. Have a good idea beforehand of the look you want to channel at each event - from your outfit to make-up to hair to decor to the photographer. It’s always good to have a wedding planner. I had Qurat Sharif who was super! And finally, smile and be happy and try to enjoy your wedding as much as you can. Not only is it your most important day but you’ll also look good in photos!
