Weddings around the world are one thing and desi weddings are a whole other world of their own. The grandiose decor, ornamental outfits, and lavish menus fit for kings are one thing, but we have been seeing a one-upping attitude even when it comes to invitations! From intricate boxes to expensive gifts, sweets, and more, the joy of the actual occasion is being lost in the theatrics.
Even in the pandemic, a time where most suffered, in Pakistan the flourishing wedding industry continued to thrive. The waste created through carelessness and indifference has brought us to a time where we are feeling the effects of climate change that we only heard of as a “far-fetched” concept in our childhoods. Now it is time we see a shift in our mindsets and in our actions.
Growing from this need for more consciousness, sprouted two beautiful souls that found each other and made the ultimate proclamation of love. In celebration of the union, they forwent the pageantry that has become so prevalent in the wedding industry and created a concept as pure as the intention of their love.
Recently, Zehra and Nabeel set out to plan their upcmoing nuptials while keeping their core values and beliefs intact. After some contemplation, the couple shared a meaningful gift in the form of an invitation with their guests. The couple wanted to contribute to a cause close to their heart, namely climate change, and decided to give out seeds to their guests in hopes that they would plant them and help reverse the effects of the matter. The growing of the seeds also represented their growing love, giving the gesture that much more meaning.
The intention behind the seeds was also a way of supporting Prime Minister Imran Khan’s tree plantation initiative to help plant a billion trees. The couple has already made waves across Twitter feeds for setting this responsible trend, and we hope they do just that; start a trend that others will follow!
