Quarantine 101: DIY Body Masks We Tried And Swear By
Here are a few DIY, homemade body masks we have been trying out and would recommend to you!
Coffee to the rescue
What you need:
- 1 tablespoon coffee
- Sugar, as required
- 1 tsp. honey
- 1 tsp. milk (optional)
Add ingredients in a plastic bowl and mix to obtain a thick paste. You can dilute with a little milk. Apply on your face and body letting it rest for a few minutes. Scrub gently using light hands around your arms, neck, legs – focusing on the elbows and knees, or areas with dark patches.
How it helps: Coffee is packed with skin-lightening and anti-ageing properties. It is also proven to be an excellent exfoliator (only second best to sugar). It stimulates blood flow, prevents acne and helps get rid of stretch marks, means it also doubles down as a great face and body mask.
Sugar may have a bad rep in your diet, but it’s surprisingly great for your skin; when applied, not when eaten. It is also a humectant as it draws moisture from the surroundings into the skin, hydrating it. It is also effective in scrubbing off dirt, grime and dead skin off your face.
Instant Glow-Up Ubtan
You need:
- Gram flour
- Turmeric
- Honey
- Unsweetened yogurt/milk
Mix all the ingredients into a thick paste. Consistency can be adjusted as per need. Swath it all over your face, neck, arms and legs.
How it helps:
The star ingredient of this classic ubtan mask is turmeric, owing to its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It is not just great as a face pack, but is also used as an all-over body mask in many cultures for new brides. Gram flour has been used for centuries as a soothing agent for inflamed skin – coupled with moisturizing milk/yogurt and healing turmeric, this body mask is also a natural antiseptic which rids your body of toxins and bacteria.
Coconut oil in sugar
What you need:
- Coconut oil
- Sugar
- Few drops of peppermint or lavender oil
In a jar, add a few tablespoons of sugar and pour in coconut oil, being careful to not drown out the sugar granules. Add a few drops of any naturally-fragrant oil like peppermint (good for relieving body aches and sores) or lavender oil (an absolute stress buster!). Store the jar in your bathroom vanity. Swath on the body scrub all over your body once a week before showering. Replenish the ingredients whenever you run out.
Note: measurements can be adjusted as per desire
