Crossing Borders with Music: The Story Behind ‘Dil Ko Samjha Lon Ga’ Featuring Ali Mirza & Priyanshi Srivastava

With its hauntingly beautiful melody and emotionally charged lyrics, Dil Ko Samjha Lon Ga has quietly found its way into listeners’ hearts. A soulful cross-border collaboration between New York-based singer-songwriter Ali Mirza and Mumbai’s rising vocalist Priyanshi Srivastava, the track resonates with those who’ve felt the ache of love, loss, and healing. We sat down with both artists to explore the story behind the song, their creative journey, and what’s next for them.

Ali, what sparked the idea for Dil Ko Samjha Lon Ga? Was there a personal story behind it?

The idea came from the thought that sometimes, healing doesn’t mean forgetting — it means finding ways to live with the memories. The song is inspired by that quiet conversation you have with yourself late at night, under the stars, when you’re trying to soothe your own heart. It’s very personal, but I hope everyone can find a piece of their own story in it.

What kind of emotions were you hoping to evoke through the composition and lyrics?

I wanted to bring out a sense of bittersweet nostalgia — that quiet ache you feel when you miss someone but still have to move forward. My hope was for listeners to feel comforted, understood, and less alone in their own moments of healing.

How did you come across Priyanshi Srivastava, and what made her the right fit for this collaboration?

It all began when a friend from Delhi sent me a reel of Priyanshi on Instagram, where she was singing one of Lata Ji’s timeless songs. There was something magical about her voice — it carried both innocence and depth, like a forgotten memory coming back to life. I instantly felt she was the perfect voice for Dil Ko Samjha Lon Ga. I sent her the song, and to my delight, she loved it and was excited to be a part of it.

Priyanshi, how did you feel when Ali approached you for this track?

Ali reached out to me on Instagram, saying he’d come across some of my reels and felt my voice was a perfect match. The moment I heard the composition, I felt deeply connected to its intense and emotional melody. It had to be a yes from my side — it spoke to my soul.

What was the recording experience like for you?

I’m biased toward dark, love-drenched melodies, so this one came naturally to me. I remember turning off the studio lights while recording — just me and the music — to feel it even more deeply. I recorded the vocals alone, without an engineer, which allowed me to really follow my instincts and listen to my heart throughout the process. I enjoyed every second of it.

Ali, were there any challenges, especially given that this was a cross-border collaboration?

Definitely. We were in three different cities — I was in New York, Priyanshi was in Mumbai, and our producer was in Lahore. I often wished we could all be in the same studio, sharing that space and energy. As independent artists striving for top-tier quality without the backing of a big label, it was tough. But somehow, everything aligned beautifully. By God’s grace, it came together even better than I had imagined.

Priyanshi, did the cross-border nature of the project affect your experience?

Honestly, not really. I never viewed it through a geographical lens. It was simply about a few wonderful artists coming together to create something meaningful. While we couldn’t jam or record in the same space, we stayed in touch through calls and messages, making sure we were aligned every step of the way.

Ali, you also acted and directed the music video. How was that experience for you?

For now, acting is something I do mostly in my own music videos — it’s just another way of visually bringing my songs to life. At this point, my heart is fully committed to music. But who knows? If a meaningful acting opportunity comes my way, I’d definitely be open to exploring that path.

How has the audience responded to the track?

It’s been overwhelming in the best way. I’m truly humbled by the love it’s receiving — especially knowing that it’s all happening organically, without a label’s push. I believe when you pour your heart into your work with honesty, something greater steps in to guide you. As for what’s next, I’m working on some exciting international collaborations with fresh sounds and new melodies. I can’t wait to share this next chapter with everyone.

Priyanshi, what’s next for you musically?

This is actually my second cross-border collaboration, and I always view such projects as a chance to expand creatively and learn something new. I’ve always admired Pakistan’s rich musical traditions — there’s so much soul in the music there. In terms of what’s next, I’ve got some upcoming projects with several Indian artists and quite a few original tracks lined up for 2025. I’m collaborating with independent musicians, rappers, and producers — it’s going to be a creatively fulfilling year!

Dil Ko Samjha Lon Ga is not just a song — it’s a shared emotional journey that bridges hearts across borders. With voices as soulful as Ali’s and Priyanshi’s, the track stands as a beautiful reminder that music, at its core, is a universal language of healing, memory, and hope.
