It’s not your usual performance song and we’ll say that with full surety.
When Chaudhry the Martyr made its cinematic debut last month, the audiences that flocked to the cinemas to see the biopic weren’t expecting to be given the treat that is Aatish, featuring the gorgeous and multi-faced Amna Ilyas.
In a time where the entertainment industry is preparing to cast its net far and wide to create innovative content, Aatish is a performance song that is heavily rooted. From drawing inspiration from Arabic cabaret dancers which can be seen in themake-up by Arshad Khan and the costumes designed by HunnyHaroon to the freestyle dance that is so immaculately done by Ilyas and the rest of the dancers, the constructive effort and hard work is evidently seen. From the set design all the way down to each accessory.
The song’s three minutes and thirty seconds feature an array of shots in which Amna leaves the viewer entirely speechless. In the opening sequence, her beguiling eyes create a sense of suspense, indicating that one ought to brace themselves for what’s to come. We’re surprised when we see the transition from Amna in a shimmery gold look to then a silver one with a slew of diamond jewelry that furthers her charm. Just when we think we’ve seen enough, Amna brings the house down in a beige body suit with a handmade crown that truly puts her on the throne she has been destined to be on.
Ilyas’s dance moves are nothing short of immaculate. With choreography and editing done by the esteemed Wahab Shah, we can see and appreciate the freestyle art of dance that is heavily prevalent. Having done dance numbers in the past, Ilyas’s performance sets the bar to another level.
