Make Lists To Function – Don’t Trust Your Memory Too Much
Can we agree that we all have forgotten important things, because we assumed our brain would have taken note and reminded us? Been there, done that.
It helps to make mini notes and reminders about things you are likely to forget. As simple as buying vegetables for dinner or shooting an email to a colleague. If you are old-school like me, get a mini notebook which can be carried around on you. Or better, download a To-Do-List app where you can type in reminders and notes-to-self.
Make a Place for Everything Organised By Type
Wonder how chefs and librarians are so organised? What is their secret? They have a place for everything – shelves, storage boxes, labels and more. You can adopt the same practice by sorting out all your personal or working material in shelves or spaces which are easy to reach and remember. Need a needle and thread to stitch? Sewing box is on the top right cabinet. Need a Band-Aid? A box containing them in the bottom drawer. Sort all your clothes, kitchen utensils and jewelry in the similar way. This may take a while, but once you see how it makes your life easier you’d surely fall into the habit of organising.
Making Backups of Everything
Get duplicates of your home and car keys, placing them in secure spots in your home. Scan and make copies of important documents like your ID, birth certificate, passport and financial records, placing them into files only you can access. Having digital copies of such documents and uploading them on your cloud drive also helps.
Labelling
Assort and label stuff that is likely to get lost in your cabinets or dressers. This approach can also be applied in sorting out your kitchen, where you clearly label different spices and their expiry dates. Label perishable and storable items in your refrigerator too.
