Breaking Away From the Cliche: Spotlight on Footballer Asmara Kiani
Determined and persistent, Asmara Kiani has made a name for herself in football. The Islamabad-based player has pursued her passion for football from an early age. Her vocational training started young when she joined the club 'The Rising Young Stars (YRS)' in 2007.
Asmara was selected the best female player from Pakistan in the 8th National Women Football Championship. She is part of the prestigious National Women Team and head coach for the Total Football Youth Academy in Pakistan. Asmara also became captain of the YRS team in 2012.
Asmara has spoken candidly about her initial challenges; when she faced rejection and criticism from her relatives and society in general – but it was her father who motivated her to follow her dreams and since then, there has been no stopping her. She found she had the courage to rise against stereotypical mindsets to prove that empowered women in sports are a necessity and talent prevails above all.
To make Pakistan proud at international platforms is Asmara’s goal and she plans to bring women’s football to prominence in Pakistan and garner global acknowledgement for its players. In 2009 she went for a sports exchange programme to the US, and has played in championships in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
We definitely look forward to Asmara Kiani having her name up in lights as she pursues her passion, and stand by her in her drive towards women’s empowerment.
