Breaking Boundaries, Defining Beauty: A British/Pakistani Makeup Artist’s Journey to Paris Fashion Week

In the fast-paced, high-energy world of fashion, backstage is where the magic happens. Models rush from one fitting to the next, designers make last-minute adjustments, and creative teams work tirelessly to bring a vision to life. This year, at Paris Fashion Week, I stood at the heart of it all—not just as a makeup artist but as a team lead, guiding a talented group through eight shows, back-to-back, over two intense days.

For me, this was more than just another milestone in my career. As a Muslim, Pakistani woman in the global beauty industry, this journey has been about proving that talent knows no borders and that cultural identity can be a strength rather than a limitation.

Mastering the Craft with the Best in the Industry

My journey in beauty has been shaped by learning from some of the most renowned artists in the world such as Mario Dedivanovic, Samer Khouzami, and Patrick Ta, all of whom have revolutionized the industry with their signature techniques. Their mentorship has been instrumental in refining my artistry, and I am honored to bring those world-class skills to every client I work with.

Beyond the runway, I have had the privilege of working in Singapore which is my base as well as internationally , collaborating with celebrities, influencers, and everyday clients alike. My passion extends beyond individual appointments—I have conducted masterclasses globally, sharing professional techniques with aspiring artists and makeup enthusiasts. Whether teaching a makeup workshop, an online class, or a personal makeover session, my goal is always the same: to empower people with the knowledge and confidence to embrace their beauty.

Embracing the Global Stage Without Losing Ourselves

The world of high fashion is often seen as exclusive, a space where only a select few get to thrive. When I first stepped into this industry, I knew I had to work twice as hard to carve out a place for myself. But I also knew that I wanted to do it on my own terms—staying true to my roots, my values, and my faith while embracing the global nature of beauty and fashion.

Navigating international fashion weeks as a British/Pakistani/Hijabi makeup artist has been a lesson in balance. It is possible to integrate into the global creative space while maintaining the richness of our culture and the principles of our religion. I’ve had the privilege of working with renowned international designers, top models, and creative artists from around the world, but what has been truly rewarding is showing that representation matters.

From Backstage to Leadership: A Career Transformed

Being part of the Fashion Week beauty team for several years has been an extraordinary experience, but stepping into a leadership role this year has elevated my career in ways I never imagined. Running a team of talented makeup artists, collaborating with hairstylists, nail technicians, and photographers, and executing a seamless vision across multiple shows has sharpened my skills—not just as a creative, but as a professional.

This experience has not only grown my portfolio but has also given me the confidence to push my career even further. It has taught me the value of mentorship, teamwork, and adaptability—lessons that I hope will inspire other young Muslim women from Pakistan and beyond to pursue their ambitions fearlessly.

Passion and Sincerity in Every Brushstroke

Whether I am working with an A-list celebrity, a runway model, or an everyday client preparing for a special occasion, my approach remains the same. I bring passion, sincerity, and dedication to every single look I create. Every face I work on is a new canvas, and I take immense pride in enhancing beauty in a way that is unique to each individual.

To me, makeup is more than just artistry—it is about making people feel empowered, confident, and celebrated. That is why I love teaching, whether it’s in a one-on-one personal makeover session, a virtual workshop, or an exclusive masterclass. The ability to share the techniques I have learned from the best in the industry and pass them on to others is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my career.

Inspiring the Next Generation

One of the most important messages I want to share is that there is space for us in these global industries. Whether it’s beauty, fashion, art, or any other creative field, our voices, our skills, and our perspectives matter. I want young Pakistani women to see that they, too, can stand backstage at the world’s biggest fashion events, brush in hand, leading a team, and making their mark.

Success is not about compromising who you are—it’s about using your unique identity as a strength. For me, my heritage and my faith have always been a source of pride, and I carry them with me in every stroke of my brush.

Gratitude and Looking Ahead

I am deeply grateful to The Lab Shows for giving me this incredible opportunity year after year. Their trust in my abilities has helped shape my journey, and I look forward to many more seasons of creativity, collaboration, and boundary-breaking.

To every aspiring makeup artist, especially those who may feel that their background could hold them back—I want you to know that your story is your power. The beauty industry is evolving, and it is voices like ours that will define its future.

So, to the next young girl watching the runways from afar, dreaming of standing backstage one day—know that it’s possible. And when you get there, bring your culture, your faith, and your talent with you. The world is waiting.
