MEHWISH HAYAT AND MS. MARVEL
Ms. Marvel’s’ superstar, Mehwish Hayat, talks about her experience with Marvel Productions, shares her thoughts on the current Pakistani entertainment industry and talks about her hopes for the near future.
It’s of great pride for our country that Pakistani actors brighten our nationality on an international platform and this time, Mehwish Hayat did just that — by being a part of ‘Ms. Marvel’ and Marvel productions. ‘Ms. Marvel’ is most known for their aim in diversifying the series, i regards to racial ethnicity. While it was a rather bold move, the series doesn’t only speak to muslim women, it also speaks to all those young individuals whose parents are immigrants.
‘I learned so much from it and so much that I brought back home and some things that I think we can learn from over here. It was a great learning curve’
We got the esteemed opportunity to converse with Mehwish to better understand her experience shooting the series, and how our country can learn from it, and thereby, become even more accomplished than we already are.
‘Our film industry is still in its infancy; it’s a very small industry with limited resources and we try to do our best with whatever we have’
Mehwish said, ‘The level of production and the fact that I actually lost count of the number of nationalities present there, I was blown away — everything was just top notch. As an artist when you experience that, you’re bound to give your best. I learned so much from it and so much that I brought back home and some things that I think we can learn from over here. It was a great learning curve.’
Accordingly, Mehwish seemed very uplifted and content with her experience with Marvel and hopes to shoot many more movies/ shows on such a platform.
Perhaps, our favourite thing about Mehwish is her love for her country - Pakistan. She’s dedicated to giving back to her country and investing all of her knowledge into helping the entertainment industry to the best of her abilities.
Mehwish said, ‘Our film industry is still in its infancy; it’s a very small industry with limited resources and we try to do our best with whatever we have.’
When questioned about the best pathway the entertainment industry should take now, Mehwish said, ‘I think we are on the right path. There was a time when there were no movies and now we produce 25 movies a year. We definitely need more cinema screens, because compared to other countries, we don’t have so many. Generally, as long as we work hard and bring good content,we will be able to create better content.
When it comes to talent, we’re just as good as any other people in this world, it’s just a matter of resources. As long as people go to the cinemas and we continue producing movies, we can improve in the future.’
