Designer Sophie Theallet Writes An Open Letter Requesting The Industry Not To Dress Melania Trump
Sophie Theallet, designer who has styled Michelle Obama and designed clothes inspired by her took to Twitter on Thursday to express her feelings about the to-be First Lady, Melania Trump. The designer refused to create anything for Melania Trump and has requested other designers to do the same.
Taking an interesting approach, she urges the fashion industry to protest Trump by refusing to dress his wife. Highlights from her letter read,
"The Sophie Theallet brand stands against all discrimination and prejudice. Our runway shows, ad campaigns, and celebrity dressing have always been a celebration of diversity and a reflection of the world we live in."
"I am well aware it is not wise to get involved in politics," she adds "That said, as a family-owned company, our bottom line is not just about money. We value our artistic freedom and always humbly seek to contribute to a more humane, conscious, and ethical way to create in this world."
Being an immigrant born in France, Sophie could easily get on board with the Obama administration, but is not ready to accept Trump's campaign.
Conclusively, "I encourage my fellow designers to do the same," she writes.
