Imran Khan receives criticism for inappropriate statement about female journalist
In our country, a woman is raped every 2 hours according to stats and we can’t even imagine the rate at which they’re being harassed. Inflation is forcing the women of our country to leave their homes and earn for their families to have a good lifestyle, but the patriarchal and sexist mindset is nowhere to leave us alone. We are not shocked to listen to that statement from someone who’s run our country for years as he is also a victim of our deep-rooted culture of blaming the victim if something goes wrong but this is not an excuse for anything especially making harsh comments about the opposite gender in front of everyone and feel proud of it.
At a job, everyone is equal whether it’s male or female. Everyone needs respect and a sense of feeling safe at the workplace, doesn’t matter if it’s a desk job or you’ve to travel like a journalist. No one deserves to be targeted by others for doing their job right.
What happened is that the PTI chairman made the remarks while speaking to a delegation from the National Press Club (NPC) and the Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) in the federal capital during which he was questioned about female journalists being harassed at the party’s rallies. The report quoted Imran ‘If she would invade male-dominated spaces, then she is bound to be harassed.’
Imran received a lot of trolls and hatred from fellow journalists as they came out in support of Gharidah Farooqi and netizens are disgusted by his statement.
