Let the nostalgia trip begin:

1) Awaaz - Mr. Fraudiye

This video is classy as hell! The three boys- Haroon Rashid, lead vocalist, keyboardist Faakhir Mehmood and lead guitarist Asad Ahmed are all wearing playful suits in blue, green and red doing a clicking dance step and singing on stage. Featuring Tariq Amin in the video was a brilliant idea- rising the classiness higher than you will ever be!

2) Ali Haider - Puraani Jeans

If you watch this video, it will- in no time- transport you right back to the 90’s. Purani Jeans has a very retro, 90’s vH1 feel to it. Rebellious teenagers can all relate to the lyrics a 100% From staying up late, going home late, being late to school, to the never ending, mind numbing lectures from parents to our first high school sweet hearts.

3) Junoon - Sayonee

One of my all time favourite tracks. Even though this song comes under the category of rock, there is a very soothing quality to it.

4) Fakhar e Alam -Bhangra Pao

This has such a disco beat and i really do want to “put my hands up in the air”. The real father of Punjabi Rap!

5) Najam Sheraz - Ek Ladki

It does not get more 90s pop than this. It just doesn’t! From his dance moves, to his funky neon bomber jacket to the lyrics and the classic “wohi tou mera dil lay gaye”

6) Abrar-ul Haq -Billo de Ghar

Nothing puts me in a groovier mood like this tune. Even right now at work I have it playing on my headphones and can’t stop shaking in a dangerously Parkinsonian manner on my seat. If someone looks my way they might want to call an ambulance.

7) Sajjad Ali - Chief Saab

OMG I have always had such a big crush on Sajjad Ali- in this video Sajjad shows his ultimate macho-ness and to die for karate moves. The lyrics are pretty catchy too and i can’t stop humming them.

8) Vital Signs - Maula

Can some one please invent a time machine already? That time period was really a turning point for the music industry in Pakistan. Shot in black and white, Vital Signs walk through the streets with rain pouring down on them in one scene.

9) Junoon- Jaazba-e-junoon

This song always makes me feel like patriotism is running through my veins. Cricket, undeniably, is the one thing that has always united us Pakistanis as a nation and this video is evidence of just that.

10) Fakhar-e-Alam- Pyaar di Gallan

God damn it! These childhood memories are tearing me up! Faker-e-Alam, in my opinion, was the actual inventor of Punjabi Rap.
