Filmmaker Sarah Jehaan Khan Wins First Prize At Girls Impact The World Film Festival

Pakistani Oxford University student Sarah Jehaan Khan is an award-winning filmmaker and she recently won the First Prize at the International Girls Impact the World Film Festival which amplifies youth voices through film.

‘Passoon’ (پاسون) is a short film by Sarah based on a young climate activist in Dir, Pakistan named Manal Shad. In Pashto, 'Passoon' (پاسون) means to rise for a cause. The film documents indigenous and innovative sustainability methods from Pakistan and celebrates the leadership of young, Pakistani women — voices that are internationally overlooked in the climate movement.



It won first prize at the international Girls Impact the World Film Festival which amplifies youth voices through film to spotlight critical issues facing women and girls throughout the world.

Judges include Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, founder of Participant Media Jeff Skoll, screenwriter Richard Curtis, and supermodel/ philanthropist Christy Turlington Burns.

Sarah Jehaan Khan is currently studing at Oxford University.
