A GUIDE ON GOING OUT OF THE HOUSE FOR PAKISTANI WOMEN
STEP 1: DRESS APPROPRIATELY
As a woman in our judgemental society, you should always make sure that you are covered and appropriately dressed. Make sure that you are covered from head to toe and even then that is not enough. Make sure all your clothes hang away from your body because as a woman your body is a blazing siren and you don't want to get attention from men around you.
Pro tip: When you are going out you should never wear anything which diverts attention to you or your body. We don't want to give out wrong hints.
STEP 2: CHOOSE THE CORRECT TIME
When you are going out ensure that you are going out at the correct time. Which is before nightfall, always go out in the morning and be back home before the sun even starts to set. Don't go out at night no matter what. No matter what emergency don’t go out at night.
STEP 3:CHOOSE THE RIGHT COMPANY
Make sure that when you are going out you have the right people with you because you should never go out alone. Make sure there is always at least one person with you. Always travel with another woman and one man at night but don't travel with men alone. And as for two women going out together, that is not safe anymore.
STEP 4: DON'T GO OUT AT ALL!
Now for the last and final step. In this step, you have to realize that even the simple act of going out of the house puts a woman in immense danger. No matter what you do because you are a woman there will always be a red target on your back. As a woman, just the simple act of going outside makes you a public good. Anybody can stare at you, eve-tease you and you have no right to say anything because just the fact that you are outside makes you guilty.
In our country, a woman is seen as a liability to society. A woman is always to follow rules and live by the expectations of society is the only one who is correct and no matter what a woman does she will never be enough. A woman in our society will never be seen as equal and as worthy of respect as a man. A woman can never make mistakes or take risks because if we are criticized for even walking out the door then what else is there left to do?
In our country, a woman's safety and rights are seen as secondary. Politicians can be seen fighting amongst themselves for power yet somehow have the same response to women's rights and women's safety. Our country has the highest rate of honor killings, kidnappings domestic abuse, and trafficking of women. Yet we’re ignored just because we are women. In our current society, nobody is fighting for women and all we can do is live in fear as more and more cases of violence against women grace our TV screens. When we march and when we raise our voice, we do it because we are afraid of what could happen to us and the women around us each day when we step out.
