6 WAYS TO EASE ANXIETY FOR YOUR FIRST FLIGHT
In our lives, we all are bound to have a lot of firsts and one of those will be your first flight. Let’s be honest flying across the sky in a metal tube can be pretty scary if you have never done it before. So here are five tips that will help ease the anxiety for your first flight.
1. ARRIVE EARLY
Your anxiety will be even worse if you feel rushed, so if it’s possible for you then make sure you arrive at the airport early so that you don’t feel rushed or feel like you are running out of time. There is nothing wrong with being early and sitting at the airport for a bit. In the meantime, you can brace for the flight, prepare yourself, and even take some cute pictures if you like.
This will give you time to go through all the processes and checking at the airport as well as be on time for your flight as calm as possible.
2. SAY NO TO CAFFEINE BEFORE YOUR FLIGHT
If you are already feeling anxious, do not drink any caffeinated drink or even any sugary beverage because that will only make you more jittery and anxious. The best thing to do before a flight is to just drink water and breath to stay as calm as possible.
3. NEVER IGNORE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
When you are on a flight and feeling anxious and overthinking about the worst-case scenarios, one thing you can do is to listen to all the safety instructions and precautions to give you some ease that this flight is prepared for the worst-case scenario and you’ll be fine.
4. DON'T TRAVEL ALONE, IF POSSIBLE
Your anxiety and fears will only increase if you are alone so if you can travel with your family or friends, it helps because if you know that there is someone with you that you trust blindly, you feel more secure. Furthermore, when you are with your family and friends you will be more distracted and won't overthink, and will have a hand to hold when there is turbulence.
5. BRING SOMETHING TO CURB NAUSEA
When you are on a flight, nausea is a very real possibility so make sure that you carry some type of chewing gum or ginger candy to help with nausea. If you are on a flight, don’t be afraid of asking the flight attendant for water or soda or even a paper bag if you need it. If you feel sick then notify your flight attendant to see if they can help.
6. FLIGHT ATTENDANTS ARE NOTHING TO BE AFRAID OF
Flight attendants are there to make your journey as comfortable as possible. If you feel afraid, anxious, or need something, then don’t be afraid to ask them. They are armed with the knowledge to help you as well as keep you safe. If you won’t be intimidated by them, you won’t feel as nervous.
Lastly remember to have fun, if you are sitting by the window take pictures and remember that this journey is a memorable experience which you should enjoy.
