The official announcement said: “His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms Meghan Markle. The wedding will take place in spring 2018. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.
“His Royal Highness and Ms Markle became engaged in London earlier this month. Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms Markle’s parents. The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.”
BBC further tweeted:
Harry’s proposal earlier this month at Nottingham Cottage in Kensington Palace did not feature any royal escapade.
Markle, recalled the “cozy night” when they were “trying” to roast a chicken — and then Harry went down on one knee to propose.
“Just an amazing surprise. It was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee,” Markle said. “As a matter of fact I could barely let you finish proposing. I said, ‘Can I say yes now?’”
During this, the Prince had to ask, “Can I give you the ring?”
The pair were able to keep their relationship secret for around six months.
Markle, who grew up in California, said a mutual friend set up their first date.
They went out twice in London before Harry convinced her to spend five days camping under the stars in Botswana.
“We were able to have so much time to connect. We never went longer than two weeks without seeing each other,” Markle said.
The couple are rumored to be planning a “non-traditional wedding” — unlike the lavish 2011 ceremony where his older brother, Prince William, tied the knot with Kate Middleton.
